Hi, I’m Jamie Shehan, a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC). I provide in-person therapy services in Urbandale, Grinnell, and Marshalltown, as well as telehealth across the state of Iowa. My goal as a therapist is to offer a supportive, non-judgmental space where we can explore your strengths, navigate challenges, and work toward meaningful change at your own pace.
I believe the most impactful therapy stems from a combination of clinical expertise and genuine empathy. My approach is shaped by both my professional training and a deep respect for the human capacity to navigate difficult life chapters. I bring this perspective into every session to ensure you have a supportive, respectful environment where you don't have to carry your struggles alone.
I completed my Master’s coursework at Capella University and have had the privilege of working with a diverse range of individuals. I am deeply passionate about providing neurodiversity-affirming care for individuals and families, helping clients celebrate and navigate their unique strengths. Additionally, I bring extensive experience working with individuals impacted by Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs), trauma, and substance use. I understand how deeply interconnected these challenges can be, and I am dedicated to helping clients process past hurts, break cycles, and build sustainable paths to recovery and resilience.
My approach is collaborative, down-to-earth, and tailored entirely to your unique needs. While grounded as a Cognitive Behavioral Therapist (CBT), I use an integrative, trauma-informed framework, incorporating evidence-based tools from Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and Motivational Interviewing. I look forward to meeting you and walking alongside you on your journey!
